The objective of this project was to elevate the competition’s aesthetic to the highest standard; reach a wider, national audience; attract a largest number of submission, gain significant national media coverage and attract industry leaders to the competition’s Opening Night.
Contemporary layouts and designs were paired with strong imagery drawn from the work of previous years finalists. This gave the competition a fresh, modern look, whilst keeping the imagery at the forefront, feeding back into the purpose of the competition.
Each of the brief’s objectives were met: we saw the highest number of submissions, widest social media reach, national media coverage (Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, Broadsheet) and a full opening night.
Beyond this flows the social impact centred around community and celebration. These include the connections made through the award - several of the finalists were immediately commissioned for work, several industry leaders attended the night to offer work to the next generation of talent - and positive sentiment that was fostered throughout the Australian photography community.
